Two new free reference tools are now live - a CMA bundle calculator for mixed gauge conductors and an interactive AWG to mm² conversion chart.

Circular mil area is the standard unit for sizing splices and ensuring conductors are properly matched. The CMA Calculator lets you build up a bundle of conductors in any combination of AWG and mm² gauges, then instantly see the total circular mil area for the group.
Once the total CMA is calculated, the tool finds the nearest equivalent single gauge and recommends the correct Tyco/AMP F-crimp splice size. It also checks against solid parallel splice ranges so you can confirm which splice fits the bundle without cross-referencing a datasheet.
This is useful when you're joining multiple wires at a splice point and need to verify the combined cross-section falls within the splice's rated range. Add conductors, adjust quantities, and the results update as you go.
The AWG to mm² Conversion Chart is a full reference table covering conductor diameter in mm and inches, cross-sectional area in mm², and circular mil area (CMA). All columns are sortable so you can order by whichever property you're working from.
The page also includes a two-way converter. Enter a value in AWG, mm², or CMA and the other two fields update automatically to the nearest matching gauge. It handles the conversion in both directions, which is useful when you're sourcing wire in metric and need to verify it matches a spec written in AWG, or vice versa.
Both tools live under Wiring Harness Tools, a section of the site dedicated to free reference resources for harness designers and auto electricians. No account required - the tools are free to use.
